Those are kind words from Kris . An update: I don't know that I am any more classifiable , but I do feel as though a more legible and productive space has emerged in the last few years for the ever-broadening application of design thinking and design practice . The NextD organization is promoting this effort within the design profession and design education (http://www.nextd.org/01/index.html) . The UK Design Council's RED team has done some very interesting work . Work that brings a smile to my face . I co-founded a non-profit that is exploring the application of design concepts and methods to the resolution of intractible social problems (www.ds4si.org) . And I am currently working at the design strategy firm Matter on social value creation projects (http://www.matterco.com/archives/45). If anyone happens to google opon this post and has some thoughts about the application of design practice to the creation of social value , do drop me a line - peagler [at] gmail [dot] com

what!

you think living in Australia in the long languid months leading up to summer, hanging out with enthusiastic tech developers, sketching, talking about and designing my own bits of tech, testing and playing with ideas, going to bbq/wireless node building days and 'technests' and learning lots about DIY innovation is fun do you?

[well, ....yeah, it is]

Hi, i live in mexico city and i´m interested in studying a Phd at Goldsmiths college. I read in your blog that you worked in a project with a mexican girl that studied there, Monica Moreno. Can you give me her e-mail adress or suggest me a way for contacting her? I would like to ask her about the university, every day life in london, etc. Thanks!

[...] I was in Sydney recently for some fieldwork and as i was waiting for a bus on Elizabeth Street to head to Bondi - I was going to an interview, honest - my attention was drawn to how people were waiting. As I had a ten minute wait for my bus I had time to observe how people actively did ‘waiting’ for a bus in Australia and to think about it in contrast to my learnt act of waiting in Britain.
that's great. thanks. i especially like the tip:

"If you're having trouble find a power outlet in the airport you're at, just look for airport personnel vacuuming. Wait till there done and plug in. Works like a charm."

nice.

and there's a flickr site too. http://www.flickr.com/groups/airpower/
