GERARD OLEKSIK - Postgradutate Student

Gerard is a PhD graduate research student at INCITE, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and sponsored by BBC Music Online.

Gerard's research, which began in October 2002, is concerned with the developing practices of music use in the home, in the context of technological innovations such as online music websites, and file swapping over the Internet.

One of the things which attracted Gerard to this research is an interest in and passion for music in all its forms, and a desire to further understanding into the nature of music and how it works socially. His interests in music extend beyond the PhD, where he is currently involved in a number of musical projects, including working on solo electronic compositions as well as collaborating with rappers and other live and electronic musicians.
