MARY EBELING - Affiliated Postgraduate Student

Trained as a journalist (MscJ, Northwestern University), Mary is pursuing her PhD at University of Surrey, focusing on online journalism, politically marginalized exiled groups and democracy. She particularly interested in how political exiles use online news and information to advocate for political change. She has worked in news media in Chicago, New York, Dakar, Sénégal and London. She also has experience in human factors research in technology design.

Her work is funded by the European Commission's 5th Framework programme project Simweb, under the supervision of Nigel Gilbert and Nicola Green. Mary is investigating consumer online behaviour to enable the Simweb programmers to model online media consumption patterns with intelligent agents.
